History

La Cañada Design Group (LCDG) was founded nearly 40 years ago by Lance Bird FAIA, in a small studio in the foothill community of La Cañada. Since then the firm has grown in both size and reputation to become one of the most respected firms in the San Gabriel Valley and Southern California. The firm’s growth continues under the new leadership of Kevin O’Brien, AIA LEED AP.

Experience

The firm has a reputation for broad, diverse experience, innovation and strong management. LCDG has successfully completed institutional, educational, administration, industrial, transportation, and healthcare projects ranging in cost from $300,000 to over $30 million.

Seventy-five percent of technical staff is licensed, with an average of 17 years’ experience. The staff are also leaders in professional and community organizations. LCDG is fluid in Building Information Modeling (BIM), and utilizes current software for drawings, specifications, estimating, scheduling, graphic design and financial controls.

Our process is driven by a desire to listen to our clients, and work collaboratively with them to fulfill their needs without preconception. We strongly believe in the power of design to create positive change. We begin every project with a mandate to create solutions that are sustainable in every way, whether using metrics for LEED, Net Zero Energy, or just doing what’s right. In the end, design is a journey where the ideals of the project and aspirations of our clients serve as our inspiration.
